The Ministry

Drop-in Centre

Every Wednesday from 11am to 3.30pm The Greyfriars Centre becomes a 'Drop-in Centre' for 'over 50's'. This is followed by the Credit Union till 6pm.

Homes for the Elderly

Several Homes for the elderly are served by the Parish. Two of them (Moffat Street: The Frail & Elderly and McNeil Street for Dementia Sufferers) are run by the Archdiocese of Glasgow.

Hospice

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice specialising in palliative care for the dying is situated in the Parish. One of the Friars (Fr Donald Walsh OFM) is the Catholic Chaplain. He also has some input into the spiritual side of training in this special field.

SVDP

The Society of St Vincent de Paul began in Paris in 1833. A young student, Frederic Ozanam, challenged by the jibe: 'Show us the results of your faith!' got together with five other students and went to bring food and firewood to the poor of Paris. With a foundation in prayer, they called themselves 'The Conference of Charity'. Later they took St Vincent as their Patron. Now numbering over a million members in over a hundred countries, our little group meets in the Greyfriars Centre on a Thursday after the 10am Mass. They go wherever there is sickness or need.
