Bridging the Gap

Bridging the Gap: A New Way Forward

Bridging the Gap is a project jointly sponsored by Blessed John Duns Scotus Catholic Church and Gorbals Church of Scotland. Bridging the Gap began as result of dialogue between the two churches about how best to serve the community together. Bridging the Gap aims to respond creatively, using music, drama and visual aims to the needs of a community experiencing regeneration. We are about bringing people together to have fun, to share stories and to learn from each other. The project employs two part-time workers who work in schools and the community. The office is in Greyfriars Centre and the project is ALWAYS looking for volunteers. For further information please contact: LYN MA or CHRISTINE CARSON (0141 418 0241)

The Franciscan Missionary Union

The 'Duns Scotus FMU' is one of the most active third-world groups in the Diocese and possibly in the country. Under it's Director, Fr Noel O'Dwyer OFM, the volunteers, some 20 in number, led by Margaret Granachan, are kept busy opening boxes, acknowledging them, answering correspondence, thanking for donations, sending the proceeds to the Franciscan Missions in India and South Africa. Evangelisation and Mission are a focus of prayer, particularly at the St Antony Novena. The annual Mission Sale in November is one of the biggest events in the South-side of Glasgow and raises a large sum for the Franciscan Missions. In addition this same team of volunteers, drawn from the whole of Glasgow, assists the Provincial Director in his work of promoting the Franciscan Missions throughout the Franciscan Province in Scotland, Wales and England.

Francis of Glasgow

Regularly meeting in the Greyfriars Centre, Francis of Glasgow has a membership of all the Franciscans in the Glasgow Arch-diocese and in the neighbouring Dioceses. They are concerned with Franciscan Formation, with working together as Franciscans and celebrating and sharing the Franciscan Charism. Once a month a full day, open to everyone, is held at the Greyfriars Centre. This is always on a Franciscan subject. A special emphasis is on the Gospels as they relate to Franciscan life. We are grateful to have, in addition to local lecturers, speakers coming from other parts of the Franciscan Province. Participants in these days have come from as far afield as Aberdeen. Other gatherings are held for prayer, for community and to show hospitality. A major project is a Millenium project to start an Aids drop-in Centre in Glasgow run by Franciscans. Francis of Glasgow is one way in which we reach out to Glasgow and beyond to bring the message of Francis to the extended community.
