Prayer and Devotion

The Novena

Every Tuesday some 300-400 people come to pray in our Church. This is Novena in honour of St. Anthony, the 'Wonderworker'. They also come to listen to a Gospel Homily. During the month of June there is a special Novena in preparation for the feast of St Antony. This starts on the 4th of June and ends on the eve of the Feast of St Antony, 12th June. During these nine days the Novena services are held more than once a day to accomodate the large number of people who come from all parts of Glasgow.

On the Feast itself, 13th June, very big numbers come for the final devotions and the blessing of Lilies in honour of St Antony. This takes place several times during the day to contain the crowd, which spills over into the Atrium and even into the hall.

The Rosary

Every weekday morning the Rosary is recited by a large number of people before Mass. This is led by Danny McCafferty.

Altar Servers

A group of young boys and girls who assist the priest at Mass and occasionally at weddings, baptisms, funerals, confirmations. They are trained, supported and assisted by Fr Donald Walsh OFM and David Plizka. A great opportunity for younger members of the Parish who want to become involved in the Sacred Liturgy. Open to any boy or girl who have made First Holy Communion and who have their parents consent.

Ministers of the Eucharist

This is an active group who assist, on a rota basis in the distribution of Communion at all Masses, Sundays and weekdays, and are a vital link between the Celebration of the Eucharist and the sick and housebound. They are dismissed at the end of the Sunday Masses to take Holy Communion to them. They also keep them in touch by taking the Parish Bulletin as well as all the news of the Parish. They are appointed by the Parish Priest, who would welcome any nominations from the parishioners. Training is given and days of recollection are held.
